Adrian Mclean

Trust Lead for Character and Personal Development, Severn Academies Trust

PGCE 2001, MA Character Education, 2021

At Birmingham, I gained skills that have been crucial to my development. Most importantly I learned that I was capable of more than I believed I was!

I am currently a Multi Academy Trust leader in schools. I help shape the education of 3000 children and the development of hundreds of staff. It’s an immense privilege that I enjoy on a daily basis.

After completing my PGCE I rose through the teaching ranks, starting as a PE teacher, navigating Head of Year roles, Curriculum Leader and Senior Leader roles to become a Headteacher 17 years later. This helped propel me to being a key influencer in shaping young people’s education.

At Birmingham, I gained a number of skills that have been crucial to my personal and career development; time management, organisation, research and networking to name a few. Most importantly I learned that I was capable of more than I believed I was! I returned recently to complete an MA in Character Education.
