Jalal Ahmed Choudhury, PGCE Primary, 2009

Jalal Ahmed ChoudhuryI was attracted to the University of Birmingham’s PGCE course after speaking to several former students who assured me that the course would offer me a high quality of education and invaluable classroom experiences that would fully prepare and propel me into a career in teaching.

Having completed my undergraduate, Masters and PhD at the University between 1991 and 1999, I was already familiar with its facilities, reputation and vibrant environment and, being a Birmingham resident, it was the obvious choice.

The PGCE benefits from an extremely supportive and expert team of lecturers that guide and nurture the students on what is a very intense and demanding year of training. The course also has excellent links with a wide variety of Schools in the region and its students are held in very high regard, which is highly beneficial to students when trying to secure NQT placements. I myself have directly benefitted from this as I have just secured my NQT placement at a local community School where I am currently completing my second block placement practice.

My ultimate career goal is to become a Head Teacher within an inner city Primary School, particularly one that caters for the ethnic minority communities. In order to further my education and career, I am considering taking the MEd once I have completed my NQT year as I believe that it will enhance my chances of promotion and help to develop my expertise as an educationalist.
