Monica Heller is a Professor at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education and the Department of Anthropology, University of Toronto, where she works out of the Centre de recherches en éducation franco-ontarienne. She is a Past President of the American Anthropological Association, and a member of the Royal Society of Canada.
In 2018 she will become Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Sociolinguistics. She has published in such journals as the Journal of Sociolinguistics, Langage et Société, Language in Society, Anthropologie et société and Anthropologica. Her most recent books are: Language, Capitalism, Colonialism: Towards a Critical History (with Bonnie McElhinny, University of Toronto Press, forthcoming) and Critical Sociolinguistic Research: A Methods Manual (with Sari Pietikäinen and Joan Pujolar, Routledge, forthcoming).
