Paul Watts is Programme Lead for the MA Character Education and Assistant Professor in the Jubilee Centre for Character and Virtues. Paul is also Head of Quality Assurance and Enhancement for the School of Education and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Paul is a former teacher and has assumed various teaching roles, including working with schools in his Local Education Authority as a Leading Teacher. Paul completed a Post-Graduate Diploma in Education in 2013 at the University of Birmingham, gaining Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). While working as a teacher, he completed a Master’s (MEd) in Teaching Studies at the University. Before joining the MA Character Education programme, Paul worked on the Jubilee Centre’s Teacher Education project. His research interests include the practical application of character education, and teacher education. Paul completed his PhD at the University of Birmingham in 2023; his study sought to critically examine how teachers use and value stories as a vehicle for teaching character education in primary schools.
