David Foster joined the School Of Education in September 2014. He teaches Mathematics Education on the PGDip in Primary Education (PGCE Advanced) Primary and Early Years Course. Prior to this he worked for two years at BCU and seven years at Newman University as a Senior Lecturer in Mathematics and Mathematics Education. David has worked as a class teacher and Mathematics Coordinator within Primary schools in Birmingham and Sandwell. His research interests include mathematical modelling, interdisciplinary mathematics, popularity, informetrics and webometrics.

David's main teaching responsibilities are:

  • Teaching Mathematics on the General Primary and Early Years PG Dip Ed courses
  • Teaching Mathematics on the School Direct Primary Course

Postgraduate supervision

supervises students undertaking the M.A in Teaching Studies


David is currently working towards his PhD in Library and Information Management specifically focusing upon mathematically modelling the popularity of web-based resources.

His particular research interests are:

  • Popularity and perceptions of popularity
  • Mathematical modelling
  • Interdisciplinary mathematics
  • Informetrics
  • Webometrics

Other activities

David is currently an external examiner at Sunderland University for the Mathematics Education, School Experience and Cross-curricular aspects of the Undergraduate ITE courses.
