Dr Faramarzi is a Lecturer in the School of Engineering. His main research interests are computational mechanics, condition assessment of infrastructure, geomechanics including poroelasticity, reservoir engineering, and inter-particle interaction of granular assemblies. He also has interest in application of evolutionary computing in geomechanical and civil engineering problems, and design of materials with unusual elastic constants. He has published over 50 research papers in prestigious journals and international conferences.

Dr Faramarzi graduated with a PhD degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Exeter in 2011. After completion of his doctorate he started a postdoctoral position as a research fellow at the University of Greenwich to work on an EPSRC funded project titled: “Assessing current state of buried sewer systems and their remaining safe life”. He joined the University of Birmingham as a Lecturer in 2014.  .
