Fatemeh Norouzian is an Assistant Professor in the School of Engineering at the University of Birmingham.

Her main research interests include various aspects of radar and remote sensing: automotive radar technologies at system and subsystem level, signal processing, material characterisation, mm-waves and sub-THz short-range sensing, electromagnetic (EM) theory, modelling and characterisation of signal propagation through diverse media and in general, electrical, electronic and digital systems design.

In her track record, she closely cooperates with key UK industrial partners like, Jaguar Land Rover PLC, Horiba MIRA Ltd, Rolls-Royce PLC and government organisation Innovate UK. Fatemeh established an internationally wide reputation as an expert in sub-THz sensing and channel characterisation with application in automotive radar, aerospace, etc. She is actively expanding her research by liaising and collaborating with academia and industries.

She has published several journal and conference papers as well as writing a book chapter on “Effect of weather on THz automotive radars”. In the last 5 years, she was invited and gave 17 talks in 7 countries, including seminars, workshops and international conferences, which attracted significant interest from the international research community. She also chaired sessions in international conferences, and she is a regular reviewer for IEEE and IET journals and international radar conferences.

Biography

She was awarded a Ph.D. degree on developing a methodology to design high efficiency power amplifiers for Cognitive Mobile Radio Communication systems. Before finishing her PhD, she was invited to join Microwave Integrated System Laboratory (MISL), the UK’s largest academic radar group, as a Research Fellow.

From 2015 to 2021, she held a Research Fellow position on 3 consecutive large-scale projects. During her research career, she progressed from junior researcher to the leading Research Fellow on the collaborative projects, which were all related to research on advanced sensing systems for autonomous platforms, working alongside scientists and experts in academia and industry.

In 2021, she was offered the position as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electronic, Electrical and Systems Engineering. She is actively building a range of research activities in the field of sub-THz sensing in automotive, aerospace and medical applications.
