SUMMARY:The International Workshop on the Bees Algorithm and its Applications (BAA) 2024
UID:www.birmingham.ac.uk/209280
DESCRIPTION:The International Workshop on the Bees Algorithm and its Applications (BAA) is an interdisciplinary forum for researchers and engineers to share the latest research results, ideas and developments relating to the popular bees-inspired optimisation technique and its applications.\n
The fourth BAA, which will be an online event on 13 November 2024, will focus on applications of the Bees Algorithm to problems in all engineering disciplines.\n
We invite presentations in all areas of engineering that use the Bees Algorithm, including but not limited to:\n

Bioengineering
Chemical Engineering
Civil Engineering
Computer Science
Electrical Engineering
Environmental Engineering
Industrial Engineering
Informatics
Mechanical Engineering
Operations Research

Authors of accepted papers will present their work on 13 November 2024 and answer questions from attendees. Selected papers will be published in a book after the Workshop.\n

Keynote Speakers

Professor Dervis Karaboga

Keynote talk: "Artificial bee colony – ABC – algorithm, its past and future perspectives"
Karaboga has received his BSc and MSc degrees from the Department of Electronics Engineering of Erciyes University and the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering of Istanbul Technical University (ITU) in Türkiye, respectively. He completed his PhD studies in the Systems Engineering Department of Cardiff University’s School of Engineering, UK, in 1994, under the supervision of Prof. DT. Pham. The title of the PhD thesis was “Optimum design of fuzzy logic controllers using genetic algorithms”.  After his doctorate degree, he worked on particularly fuzzy systems, artificial neural networks, evolutionary and swarm intelligence-based algorithms, and used these approaches to solve  many different engineering problems and published the results in reputable journals.\n
In 2005, he introduced a new swarm intelligence based optimization algorithm by modeling the intelligent foraging behavior of honeybees, called "Artificial Bee Colony-ABC", which allows effective solving of optimization problems. By now, ABC algorithm has been employed to solve different kind of optimization problems in many different application areas and become one of the most popular swarm intelligence based optimization algorithms. Karaboga has a two-authored book titled "Intelligent Optimization Techniques", published by the "Springer London" in 2000, and a single-authored book titled "Artificial Intelligence Optimization Algorithms", in Turkish, in 2004. Due to his successful works, he was included in the "Highly Cited Researchers" list determined by "Clarivate Analytics" between 2016 and 2020. In 2023, it was deemed worthy of the "TÜBİTAK 100th Year Science Award" and the "TÜBA International Academy Award", which are Turkey's most prestigious science awards.\n

Dr Shahnorbanun Sahran

Keynote talk: "The Bees Algorithm in Biomedical Engineering Applications"
Dr Shahnorbanun Binti Sahran is an Associate Professor at the Center for Artificial Intelligence Technology (CAIT), Faculty of Information at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). Her expertise lies in Artificial Intelligence, Optimization, and Pattern Recognition. Dr. Sahran holds a PhD in Intelligent Control System from the University of Cardiff, Wales. Her research focuses on applying artificial intelligence techniques to various problems particularly on biomedical engineering problems. As a lecturer and researcher, her goals include building a scientific knowledge base about learning and teaching of artificial intelligence and promoting dynamic process orientation. She has managed 2 National Key Research and Development Program with the Ministry of Education Malaysia for a Big Data Project where she is the head of Data Analytics Team and National Heart Institute for their 1st Data Science Seminar, and Speaker for AI in Medical in Digital Pathology Congress held in Tokyo, Japan in 2018. She has published more than 100 articles and has supervised 39 PhD students and 21 Master students.\n
