Introduction to Micropalaeontology

introduction-micropalaeontologyThis module provides you with skills needed to successfully complete this course. We appreciate that students may come from a range of academic and industrial skills bases so it is important that we cover many of the key techniques early on. The skills you learn in this course will be applicable to most of the modules you will complete during the MSc.

We will cover concepts in stratigraphy, facies analysis, biostratigraphy, taxonomy, oceanography & ecology. Practical skills in microscopy, imaging, illustration and data handling/presentation will also be provided. We will also cover the interpretation of geochemical proxies as palaeoclimatic indicators; many such proxies are derived from microfossils.
