Description

This course provides a theoretical and practical understanding of the hydrocarbon industry and petroleum systems geology.

Delivery

These topics are introduced in 10 lectures. Most of the course time (38 hours) is devoted to 12 extended practical exercises that provide grounding in industry-standard analysis techniques and software.

Assessment

  • 3 assessed practical exercises (30%)
  • Folder of remaining 9 practical exercises (10%)
  • 2 hour exam (60%), summer term, consisting of 8 short-answer (15 minute) questions from a choice of 16

Key skills

This course is strongly focused on teaching technical information to those considering a career in the hydrocarbon industry. The main generic skill is quantitative analysis of multiple, diverse and incomplete datasets.
