Research Methods in Environmental Science

Description

This module will provide students with an introduction to the practical and professional skills and methods that are required as an environmental scientist.

In Semester 1, students will be introduced to the fundamental principles of environmental research through consideration of philosophy, literature, methodologies and approaches.  This will be achieved through workshops, tutorials, a local field visit, and 4 day field course.  In addition, students will consider the ways in which science is communicated to different audiences and how social media can be used to enhance skills and the professional profile.

In Semester 2, students will be introduced to data analysis and GIS approaches, through lectures and linked computer practicals. Tutorials will reinforce the taught programme through discussion and group project work.
