Description

The core element of the module aims to deliver a clear understanding of the approaches used in River Restoration in the UK and the overseas.

The key principles and concepts behind river restoration philosophy and approaches will be outlined and examined. Different case studies will be examined in detail as an evidence-based approach to ascertain successful approaches to river restoration.

Case studies will be drawn from research projects from the United Kingdom and globally, to illustrate their application, with local field visits to key sites to view methods first hand.

Methods to evaluate success of restoration will be discussed and how this can be used to achieve success in future restoration projects.

The role of river restoration in light of regulation will be evaluated, with particular reference to the EU Water Framework Directive.
