Title of PhD: Responsible Innovation and Governance in Nanomedicine

Supervisors: Professor Jamie Lead and Dr Julian Clark

Indrani is undertaking research in the area of potential environmental implications of active nanostructures used for medical applications and future governance issues. She is using qualitative methodologies in her research, including semi-structured interviews with scientists, industry R&D personnel, the policymakers, the regulators, and others.

Indrani studied Biochemistry from University of Delhi, India, and she was awarded a scholarship to pursue her post graduate study in Environmental Management from GGS Indraprastha University, India. She also did her advance diploma in Software Programming and qualified the National Eligibility Test for Lectureship.
She has work experience of nearly 8 years.

Her first employment was with TERI (The Energy and Resources Institute) as a Research Associate where she primarily focused on air pollution and exposure assessment. She moved on to work with Development Alternatives and managed a couple of large projects involving multidisciplinary teams and multiple institutional partners. Her key projects involved facilitating and implementing cleaner production and occupational health and safety measures in Small and Medium Scale enterprises (SMEs) and influencing policies regarding improved environment and social performance of SMEs. Gender and vulnerability assessment and participatory decision making were cross-cutting themes in the projects she handled. She moved on to work with Ernst and Young Pvt. Ltd. in their Climate Change and Sustainability Services group and provided sustainability advisory and assurance services to Indian and international companies and across sectors: Oil and Gas, Cement, Fertilisers, Automotive, etc. In the capacity of Senior Consultant, she lead teams and business development initiatives, trained industry employees on corporate sustainability and engaged with the senior and top management. She also had a brief formal teaching experience of the subjects of Mathematics and Physics to middle school (Standard VII-X) students in one of Delhi’s premier schools.
