Biography

Josh completed his undergraduate and graduate studies at the University of Wollongong in Australia, with his PhD also jointly with the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO). He then completed his postdoc at the University of New South Wales in Australia, within the National Centre for Groundwater Research and Training (NCGRT). He was subsequently a Lecturer at the University of Queensland in Australia, and then a Senior research scientist at the University of Lausanne in Switzerland, before starting as a Senior Lecturer at the University of Birmingham.

Teaching

  • Environmental Research Frontiers
  • Catchment Water Management
  • Dissertation Labs and Fieldwork: Theory and Practice
  • Spatial Data Analysis and Environmental Geophysics
  • Surface Water Interactions

Postgraduate supervision

If you enjoy thinking about difficult problems and how processes link together, then please get in touch. I generally work in the following areas, but am always open to working on bigger and better questions:

  • How are water resources partitioned across spatial scales?
  • How are nutrient and water balances linked at reach to basin scales?
  • What is the future of water resources under climatic and anthropogenic changes?
  • How does vegetation drive water, energy, and carbon balances?
  • Can we use our knowledge of the present to better interpret the past?
