Title of PhD: Enhancing the resilient design of urban landscapes against multiple risks

Supervisors: Jon Coaffee, Rob Rowlands

Jonathan is currently undertaking doctoral research into resilient urban design, as part of the EU funded, Designing Safer Urban Spaces (DESURBS) programme. This work is based on the study of urban space case studies, understanding how design weaknesses can be identified and eliminated.

Immediately prior to this, Jonathan completed an MSc dissertation on landscape urbanism as a means for bottom-up regeneration in urban England.

Biography

Jonathan has a practitioner background with over 10 years of experience as a Chartered Landscape Architect, and with a special interest in the design of urban space.

He has a strong range of professional skills and experience, including masterplanning, environmental impact assessment and detailed urban design. Jonathan has also achieved high quality results in the design of public realm, including parks, local centres, schools and urban residential developments.

In 2010, he returned to study for an MSc in Urban & Regional Planning at the University of Birmingham’s Centre for Urban and Regional Studies (CURS). Jonathan’s previous studies at the University of Sheffield included landscape architecture, architecture and ecology.

Jonathan is a Licentiate of the Royal Town Planning Institute and also a member of the Urban Design Group.
