Zena Lynch worked as a Principal Environmental Health Officer for many years, prior to becoming the Health Policy Advisor for the West Midlands Regional Assembly and latterly as Programme Director for ‘Living Well West Midlands’. She currently teaches on the MSc in Environmental Health and MSc in Public and Environmental Health Science and the BSc Environmental Science courses.

During her Environmental Health career Zena has covered all aspects of Environmental Health duties, including pollution control, food inspection, health and safety, housing and public health. She became the Principal Environmental Health Officer at Wyre Forest District Council, specializing in housing enforcement and public health nuisance, including responsibility for land drainage and health promotion. In 2005, she moved to the West Midlands Regional Assembly, leading on the development of the West Midlands Health and Wellbeing Strategy, which was a comprehensive strategy, supporting a more holistic approach to health improvement in the region. As part of this work Zena led on the bid for the Big Lottery Health and Wellbeing fund and was successful, securing £6.8 million for ‘Living Well West Midlands’, focusing on mental wellbeing, physical activity and food and nutrition and investigating the links between them. Zena is the lead for MSc teaching activity across the Environmental Health MSc courses.

She teaches on MSc in Environmental Health and MSc in Public and Environmental Health Sciences course, on areas of Public Health, Law and Housing and also on the BSc Environmental Science course on Environmental Law.

  • CIEH National Housing Advisory Group

Zena is also a Member of the West Midlands Regional Board of the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health
