The 1st Network Conference on Persistent Organic Pollutants was hosted by the School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences, University of Birmingham on Wednesday 29 and Thursday 30 March 2006.

This major conference brought together researchers from the UK and overseas to advance the understanding of all aspects of research into UNEP/UN-ECE POPS and to disseminate this information to the wider community, including researchers, regulators and industry.

3rd Network Conference on Persistent Organic Pollutant

22-23 April 2009

The 3rd Network Conference on Persistent Organic Pollutants was hosted by the School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences, University of Birmingham on Wednesday 22 and Thursday 23 April 2009.

The LGCStandards Prize of £200 for the Best Student Presentation at the Conference was won by Mohamed Abdallah of the University of Birmingham for his presentation entitled 'Determination of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) using liquid chromatography coupled to negative ionization atmospheric pressure photoionisation tandem mass spectrometry (LC-NI-APPI-MS/MS): validation and application to house dust.' He is pictured here receiving his certificate from Dr Chris Wright who adjudicated along with Robin Law. The conference organisers acknowledge gratefully the continuing support of LGCStandards for this prize.

The 6th Network Conference on Persistent Organic Pollutants was hosted by the School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences, University of Birmingham on Tuesday 17th and Wednesday 18th April 2012.

Plenaries were given by:

  • Dr. Marta Venier (Indiana University at Bloomington) - Legacy and new POPs: What the North American Great Lakes can tell us; lessons from a long term atmospheric monitoring network.
  • Dr. Line Småstuen-Haug (Norwegian Institute of Public Health) - Characterisation of human exposure pathways to perfluorinated compounds - comparing exposure estimates with biomarkers of exposure.
