Speaker: Dr Caron E Gentry, Senior Lecturer in the School of International Relations, University of St Andrews

Abstract: In this talk, Caron Gentry will provide a preview of her forthcoming book, Disordered Violence: How Gender, Race, and Heteronormativity Structure Terrorism.  She will introduce the key argument, that Terrorism Studies is dependent upon particular structures to write terrorism as immoral, illegitimate, and irrational.  She will focus on the need to recognise misogynistic terrorism, a form of terrorism that encompasses violence against women and feminized peoples such as personal violence as well as mass shootings.

Biography: Caron E. Gentry is a Senior Lecturer in the School of International Relations at the University of St Andrews, UK. Her main research interest is gender and terrorism.  She has published multiple books, including, most recently, This American Moment: A Feminist Christian Realist Intervention (2018),  Beyond Mothers, Monsters, Whores (2015, with Laura Sjoberg) and Offering Hospitality: Questioning Christian Approaches to War (2013).  She is also published in numerous journals.
