Title: Do Arabs Not Do Parties?

With the eruption of the Arab Spring, there has been an immense surge in demand for research on the state of the democratization process in the Middle East and North Africa. Does the Middle East and North Africa appear to be changing politically? And in which direction?

Lise’s research explores parties, party systems, and party system institutionalisations in the Arab World. In her talk, she explores the question “Do Arabs Not Do Parties?”. This seminar is co-sponsored by the research project “Debating Political Parties in the Age of Populism”.

The project is led by Fernando Casal Bértoa from the University of Nottingham and Nic Cheeseman from the University of Birmingham.
