This module introduces you to the planning and analysis of small scale investment projects. Types of investment covered include typical donor, government and NGO projects, including agriculture, poverty reduction and public services projects.

The course begins with the project cycle and continues to logical framework based planning, input and output modelling, financial forecasts, methods of project valuation and project finance. The course is practice-based with widespread use of case studies and exercises. It is introductory in nature and no prior economics or finance knowledge is needed.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the module, you should be able to:

  • Demonstrate a general critical understanding of the project planning and appraisal process.
  • Be able to design simple projects.
  • Read larger scale project proposals and related documents with understanding.

Assessment

One 3,000 word assignment (50%). One 1,500 word assignment (50%)
