At Birmingham we ensure that fears about finance do not constrain prospective students from considering university and that excellence is rewarded. The University offers a range of additional financial support for students studying at Birmingham in the form of bursaries, grants and scholarships.

Undergraduate 

Postgraduate Progression Awards: fee discounts for final years

The Postgraduate Progression Awards offer final year undergraduates a fee discount of £1,500 for postgraduate study at the University of Birmingham

Chamberlain Award

If your household income is below £25,000 you will be entitled to additional financial support from the University in the form of a Chamberlain Award.

Music Scholarships

In recognition of the role that music plays within the University, we offer a number of Music Scholarships each year. Offering approximately 17 hours of musical tuition per year for three years (total cash value of £3,000), these scholarships are open to prospective students who are performing at a grade 8 standard in an instrument or vocals and have an offer of a place on a full-time undergraduate programme (other than a programme offered by the Music Department) at the University of Birmingham.

Sports scholarships

The University is rated amongst the very best in the country for sport and this status is reflected in the wide range of sport scholarships that we offer. Our flagship scheme, called the UBsport scholarships, on which we currently support 30 student-athletes competing at junior international level and above.

Birmingham Masters Scholarship scheme

The University of Birmingham is offering over 300 awards of £1,500 to support the brightest and best applicants wishing to undertake Masters study at the University. Find out more about the Masters Scholarship

Doctoral Research

The University has a number of awards for UK/EU and overseas candidates starting a one-year Masters programme and for PhD study, some of which are region- and country-specific scholarships. Interested candidates are strongly urged to apply.

Economic and Social Research Council Funding  

The Unversity of Birmingham is proud to offer 17 ESRC scholarships to fund postgraduate training and doctoral research through the Midlands Graduate School Doctorial Training Partnership (DTP).
