Context

As NATO and the EU both place heavy emphasis on the notion cooperative and collective security, among the most significant challenges for Euro-Atlantic security are current and future threats and challenges deriving from the political instability, economic vulnerability, conflict, poverty, natural and man-made disasters in PfP and EaP partner countries and beyond.

In the face of the ever-changing security environment there is an urgent need for NATO, the EU and their partners to develop in-depth understanding of the root causes of the different dimensions of instability in the PfP and EaP countries of the former Soviet Union and Western Balkans and to work together in a truly cooperative effort to tackle the complex and unpredictable risks and threats emanating from there.

Project aims and objectives

The aim of this project is to contribute to building truly interactive and meaningful collaboration between academics from NATO and EU member states and partner countries in the Western Balkans and EaP area and to disseminate knowledge and understanding of current and new threats in these countries by promoting independent and critical thinking from an interdisciplinary and cross-cultural perspective.
