The Peter Gelling Library

The Peter Gelling Library is the departmental library of the Department of Classics, Ancient History and Archaeology and is open to all students in the School of History and Cultures. You can find the Library on the third floor of the Arts Building, Room 315.

Students reading in the Peter GellingThe Library holds a range of books relating to the subjects covered by the department, including those not stocked in the Main Library, and it is open to students 4-5 hours a week in term-time. In its opening hours, the library is staffed by a team of volunteer librarians from the department, who run the PGL as a lending library, in addition to continuing the process of cataloguing the stock. The Library also serves as a quiet study space for students. By volunteering in the PGL, the student librarians have the opportunity to gain insight into the role of an academic librarian, in addition to gaining points on the University of Birmingham’s employability programme, The Personal Skills Award.
