LLB Bodies of Law

Student listening in a lectureModule leader: TBC

Module description:

Bodies of Law analyses a range of ways in which human and non human bodies are regulated and shaped by law. The course will commence with an introduction critical feminist literature on bodies, bodily integrity and embodiment. It will then explore the commodification of bodies and the usefulness of property-based accounts of the body.  This theoretical framing of the issues will be followed by case studies focusing on specific bodies and legal responses to them – e.g. ‘the animal body’, the ‘fetal body’, the ‘fat body’, ‘the anorexic body’ ‘the transgender body'.
