Module leader: Linden Thomas
This module will give students an insight into the theory and practice of employment law relating to individual rights. Students will be introduced to fundamental employment law topics such as: unfair dismissal; discrimination; the Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) Regulations 2006; parental rights; and Employment Tribunal practice and procedure. Students will be expected to critically assess the current state of employment law and the challenges faced by those who practice it.
The module will also draw upon clinical legal education models to introduce students to professional conduct issues in a simulated practice setting, thereby developing their legal practice skills. Throughout the module students will have a number of opportunities to hear from employment law practitioners and to observe a real Employment Tribunal Hearing.
