SUMMARY:Press Freedom and Press Regulation: Comparative Approaches
UID:www.birmingham.ac.uk/211045
DESCRIPTION:In this panel event, we will be joined by Professor RonNell Andersen Jones (University of Utah, and Yale) who will discuss her forthcoming Cambridge University Press book on press freedom.
This will be followed with a comparative Q&A discussion from our panellists, Professor Paul Wragg and Rebecca Moosavian (both University of Leeds), Professor Jacob Rowbottom (University of Oxford), Lexie Kirkconnell-Kawana (CEO of the press regulator, Impress), and Dr Pete Coe (BLS). The panel will explore the increased political, economic, and technological threats to journalists. They will discuss ways that legal systems – the UK and US – with different constitutional and statutory protections, and different press-regulatory frameworks, can learn from each other as they work to foster democracy-serving newsgathering.\n

Please confirm your attendance using the online form (please note that places are limited to 30 people on a first-come-first-served basis).
