Emily’s research interests are in Land Law, the Legal Profession, and in Legal Education.

Biography

Emily practised at Irwin Mitchell, Walker Morris and Shoosmiths before joining the Law School at the University of Birmingham in September 2014. Emily is a Lecturer within Birmingham Law School’s Centre for Professional Legal Education and Research (CEPLER). Emily is the module convenor for land law and real estate modules.

Emily won the College of Arts and Law’s Outstanding Teaching Award in June 2018. Emily also won the University of Birmingham’s HEFi Award for Education Enhancement and Innovation in Supporting Student Learning in December 2018.

Emily’s interest in land law teaching led her to run a teaching conference in September 2017 in order to ‘Re-Imagine the Teaching of Land Law’. Emily subsequently established a Network of Teachers of Land and Property (netlap.org) in March 2018.

Research

Emily’s research reflects the decade that she spent in legal practice as a real estate solicitor and concentrates on themes of property law; the legal profession; and legal education.

Emily is currently undertaking a PhD at the University of Birmingham.
