The DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) promotes international academic relations and cooperation, particularly through its exchange programmes for students. One of these programmes is subsidised by summer course grants for advanced students of German.

Every summer, German universities offer a broad range of three to four-week language courses which, in addition to intensive language teaching, focus on literary, cultural, political and economic aspects of modern Germany. They are offered at universities and Fachhochschulen between July and September 2013.

This year the successful scholarship holders are first year student Eleanor McIntyre, who will study 'Business Communication' at the University of Bayreuth; second year student Harpreet Bhelley, who is taking a 'University Summer Course' run by DID and the International School of Management in Hamburg; and Mark McFadden, who will study 'Wirtschaftsdeutsch' at Fachhochschule Aachen this summer.
