In this lecture, Glyn Redworth will talk about a still largely-forgotten reign, that of King Philip I of England (1554-1558). Of interest to hispanists and non-hispanists alike, his talk will range across questions of gendered monarchy during England´s Tudor period and Spain's Golden Age, to a radical reappraisal of England´s importance within the 16th-century European community. The lecture will be illustrated by reference to coins, coats-of-arms, Great Seals, as well as contemporary instances of female rulership.
