Franco D’Intino is Professor of Modern Italian Literature at “La Sapienza” (Roma), where he graduated in Italian literature and where he also completed his doctoral research on Leopardi in the context of European Romanticism. He has published books on the “novelle” of Luigi Pirandello and Italian literary journalism of the 19th century, but his main areas of research are: theory and history of the genre “autobiography” (L’autobiografia moderna. Storia forme problemi, Roma, Bulzoni, 1998) and the work of Giacomo Leopardi (as well as many articles, the editions Scritti e frammenti autobiografici Roma, Salerno editrice, 1995; Poeti greci e latini, Roma, Salerno editrice, 1999; Volgarizzamenti in prosa 1822-1827, Venezia, Marsilio, 2012; and the book L’immagine della voce. Leopardi, Platone e il libro morale, Venezia, Marsilio, 2009).
He is Director of the Leopardi Centre, based at Birmingham, and of the Laboratorio Leopardi, based at La Sapienza. He has recently co-edited, with Michael Caesar, the complete English edition of Leopardi’s Zibaldone, New York, Farrar Straus & Giroux/London, Penguin, 2013 (second, revised edition forthcoming).
