Iphigénie en Aulide

  • Director - Matthew Knight
  • Music Director - Georgina Wheatley

Opera returns to the Barber as the University’s finest musicians present Christoph Willibald Gluck’s adaptation of Euripides’s classic Greek tragedy. Gluck’s first foray into opera for the Parisian stage proved fantastically popular and it is not difficult to see how it went on to capture the imaginations of many an operagoer, including Richard Wagner. With a plot that twists and turns as the protagonist is torn between familial ties and duty, it remains as enduringly enchanting today and this will no doubt be yet another spectacular start to the University’s Summer Festival of Music.

Performed in English.

Venue: Barber Concert Hall
