Music from Antwerp in the time of Jan de Beer
In the late fifteenth and early sixteenth century Antwerp was home to an array of fine and distinctive painters including Metsys, Patinir and Jan de Beer. However, the town was no less distinguished as a musical centre, with composers such as Ockeghem, Obrecht, Barbireau, and Waelrant finding employment in the city at various points. Glimpse into Antwerp’s soundscape at the same time that de Beer was producing his refined and detailed panels, the focus of an exhibition at the Barber Institute this autumn.
