The University New Music Ensemble give the world premiere of works by two of the University’s postgraduate composition students alongside a performance of Gil Evans’ arrangement of Porgy and Bess. Originally arranged for the Miles Davis 1959 studio album of the same name, Porgy and Bess is orchestrated for wind, brass and drums – with trumpet/flugel horn solo – performed in this concert by the inimitable Percy Pursglove. This combination of new works and classic studio albums follows the ethos of the University’s CrossCurrents new music festival – bringing together music of different styles and genres – encouraging new musical experiences.
