This programme follows in the footsteps of three nineteenth century women discovering Scandinavia for the first time. The music draws on a treasure trove of Scandinavian songs by composers including Agathe Backer-Grøndahl, Edvard Grieg, Amalia Hjelm, Helena Munktell, Laura Netzel, Carl Nielsen and Wilhelm Stenhammar, interwoven with spoken extracts from the colourful and evocative travel writings of three British women who journeyed there: Mary Wollstonecraft, Selina Bunbury and Emily Lowe.
