Birmingham University Singers were pleased to perform this month with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and conductor, Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla, at Symphony Hall, Birmingham as part of the city-wide CBSO Debussy Festival – a two week celebration of the hugely influential French composer in his centenary year.

The University of Birmingham choir

Under the baton of their Chorus Master, Simon Carrington, the choir performed Debussy’s Trois chansons de Charles d'Orléans and received unanimous praise from audience and critics alike, with Andrew Clements of The Guardian noting the “great panache” in their interpretation. The performance also featured a number of international soloists alongside the CBSO Music Director – including Ilse Eerens, Aga Mikolaj, and the CBSO Youth Chorus.

Choirs are an integral part of University Music in Birmingham, and offer unrivalled opportunities for young singers at any university in the UK.
