Summer Festival of Music 2021
The annual Summer Festival of Music is a highlight of the academic year for musicians at the University of Birmingham and, this year, University Music is delighted to announce a two-week period of events at the end of the semester for students, staff, and members of the wider community.
Running from 14 – 25 June 2021, the Summer Festival of Music will include a variety of both in-person and online events, including virtual performances from Music Society ensembles, String Orchestra, Brass Band, and Samba Band, as well opportunities for students to rehearse and perform live in Chamber Music and Jazz Collective sharing platforms. We are also excited to welcome a range of leading musicians as part of our new “In conversation with…” series, with interviewees including Sheku Kanneh-Mason, Trish Clowes, John Rutter, and Roxanna Panufnik.
Throughout the festival, we will also be working on new projects, including the launch of our Creative Exchange online installation, CONNECTION – COLLABORATION – COMMUNITY, which will bring together students from across the University to showcase artwork, poetry, and compositions and create a virtual presentation on the theme of ‘community’. After the festival, the installation will be available for a limited time at www.creativeexchangebrum.com.
