SUMMARY:Continuum Mechanics in Biology, 1-3 July 2025
UID:www.birmingham.ac.uk/213054
DESCRIPTION:The interface between continuum mechanics and the life sciences teems with opportunities. Theoretical advances in areas such as complex fluids, interfacial flows and non-linear solids are unlocking new insights into complex biological phenomena; in parallel, discoveries in biology continually challenge mathematicians to refine and expand theories and models.\n
This workshop will unite mathematicians developing applications of continuum mechanics with biologists seeking interdisciplinary methodologies. The proceedings will feature five plenary lectures and five sessions of contributed short talks. A wide range of topics will be covered, including complex continua, multiscale problems and computational methods, with a focus on the principles and practices of mathematical modelling. A poster session and co-creation sandpits will round out the programme. The sandpit session will comprise themed discussion rooms for like-minded theoreticians and experimentalists to explore collaborative approaches, generating new insights and partnerships.\n
All researchers interested in continuum mechanics and its biological applications are welcome. Early career researchers including PhD students are particularly encouraged to attend. Funding is available to support UK-based students, as well as participants with caring responsibilities; please see the 'Register' page for details.\n
