Dr Alex Bespalov awarded EPSRC standard grant

Dr Alex Bespalov has been awarded an EPSRC standard grant to work on numerical analysis of adaptive algorithms for partial differential equations (PDEs) with random inputs. This joint project with collaborators at the University of Manchester focuses on the development of robust, accurate, and practical numerical methods for solving parameter-dependent PDEs stemming from uncertainty quantification models.

Recent research suggests that advantageous approximation properties of numerical methods for parametric PDEs can best be achieved by using an adaptive refinement strategy. The design of optimal adaptive algorithms remains an open question however. This project aims at the design, theoretical analysis and efficient implementation of the state-of-the-art adaptive algorithms applicable to a range of PDE problems with random inputs.
