Martin van Beek qualified with a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Mathematics from the University of Glasgow in 2016. He went on to complete a Master of Advanced Studies in Mathematical Sciences from the University of Warwick in 2017. He then went on to study for a PhD in Pure Mathematics at the University of Birmingham the same year.
In 2021, Martin submitted his PhD thesis, titled 'Local Group Theory, The Amalgam Method, and Fusion Systems' and completed under the supervision of Prof. Chris Parker.
Later in 2021, Martin began an EPSRC funded research associateship at the University of Birmingham with the goal of classifying parabolic systems in fusion systems.
