Our students

Four female and one male medical student sitting outside the medical school

Our student body is highly diverse with nearly half of our students coming from Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) backgrounds. This means that students learn about different cultures, religions, countries and communities from one another. We value everyone's abilities and contribution and have a firm commitment to inclusivity.

We are also very proud of our very successful widening participation schemes (Routes to the Professions, A2B) which mean that approximately 18% of our home student intake on the five-year MBChB each year is from a background that did not used to be represented in medical schools. Not only is this fair it also means that our intake better reflects the population we are training them to care for.

Below some of our students share their experiences and advice of studying at Birmingham Medical School.

Our students accomplish amazing achievements inside and outside of Birmingham Medical School; some of these students are commended for exceptional performance, sometimes in very difficult circumstances.
