The Times league table position follows the School achieving first place for graduate employability (DHLE 2016), a 93% student satisfaction rating in the National Student Survey 2017 (third place in the Russell Group), and ranked third overall in the Guardian University Guide 2018.

The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide is created using a variety of criteria including student satisfaction, research quality, graduate prospects, entrance qualifications held by new students, degree results achieved, student/staff ratios, service and facilities spend, and university dropout rates.

Professor Martin Freer, Head of School of Physics and Astronomy, said:
‘This is a very good result for the School. It is thanks to all the hard work of our students and staff that we continue to provide a high-class academic environment, delivering excellent research and teaching’.
