Astrophysics Masterclass

The School of Physics & Astronomy have been organising Astrophysics Masterclasses for Y12 students since 2002, visiting students enjoying a programme of talks and hands-on workshops led by staff and postgraduates  working in the Astrophysics field.

The aim of the workshops is to introduce school sixth formers to some of the research techniques used by astrophysicists, and also to reinforce some of the ideas outlined in some A Level syllabi.

Workshops have included

  • How long is a day on Saturn?
  • How old is the Universe?
  • Can you count to a million million? - How many stars are out there?
  • Space weather

The most recent Astrophysics Masterclass took place on November 21st 2012.
