Cadbury College Visit

Cadbury College students learned about subjects as diverse as making social judgments, memory precision and using robots for rehabilitation during a trip to the School of Psychology.

Some 150 pupils aged 16-18 visited the University of Birmingham’s Edgbaston campus over three days where they attended talks and took part in voluntary experiments.

Staff from the department also provided them with insights into their areas of research and studying Psychology at Birmingham.

Students had the chance to view the school’s laboratories and watched demonstrations covering areas such as:

Cadbury College students watch an experiment

 - Do your eyes know what you are thinking?

 - Emotional processing and the teenage brain

 - How difficult can it be to make a cup of tea?

 - The Visual Experience Lab

 - Interfaces for psychophysical experiments

 - Robots for rehabilitation

 - Are you aware of things that go bump in the night?

Organiser Mark Elliott said: "The event provided a great opportunity for the college students to both find out about studying for a Psychology degree as an undergraduate and also the wide variety of research that takes place in the School of Psychology."

Student Recruitment Co-ordinator Rachel Wrigglesworth said: “It was a well-organised day that gave local students the chance to see Psychology research in action.

“Students enjoyed seeing inside working labs and testing equipment for themselves, and there was plenty of interest in our undergraduate Psychology degree programmes.”
