The ability to remember experiences and past events is substantially supported by consolidation processes during sleep. The broad question Marit is working on is what happens in the human brain during offline periods when fragile episodic memory traces become stable representations. Her PhD project aims to further investigate consolidation processes and specify the functional significance of fast sleep spindles and slow oscillations for episodic memory formation using EEG.
