Speaker profile

Karen Skinazi, PhD, MA, BA (Hons) is Academic Practice Advisor in the Centre for Learning and Academic Development, and Lecturer in English, Drama, and American and Canadian Studies, University of Birmingham. Her research interests focus on race and ethnicity in North American Jewish literature, Asian Canadian and American Studies, and Border Studies. Karen’s recent publications include articles on the voice of the Hasidic woman in Quebec (in Shofar: An Interdisciplinary Journal of Jewish Studies), Miriam Michelson, New Woman writer of the multi-ethnic American West (in MELUS: The Society for the Study of Multi-Ethnic Literature of the United States), as well in more popular publications such the Jewish Daily Forward and Tablet Magazine. In 2012, Karen published a critical edition of Winnifred Eaton (Onoto Watanna)’s Marion: The Story of an Artist’s Model with McGill-Queen’s University Press. She is currently working on a book about contemporary Jewish Orthodox women’s literature.
