Care Close to Home: Supporting Community Enterprise
- 14 Cannon St
- Alumni, Lectures Talks and Workshops, Social Sciences
Care and support for older people and people with learning disabilities can be offered by small, local community enterprises. These enterprises are known to get better outcomes than large-scale care providers, but can find it hard to get started or stay in business. This ESRC Festival of Social Science event is aimed at better understanding how very small enterprises can successfully provide care in their communities, including for seldom heard groups such as people from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic communities.
Speakers will include care sector support organisations, and local economic development and social finance bodies, focusing on how small local care services can get going. The event will also consider what local and national policy-makers need to do to make it easier for small-scale care providers. Local entrepreneurs and people who use care services will also offer examples of when community enterprise has worked well to deliver improved outcomes and more personalised support.
