Dr Ceren Ozgen is an applied economist and she works at the intersection of labour and urban economics.  She has published extensively on impact of cultural diversity, international migration and firm innovation. Her recent research focuses on technological change and robotisation, skills mismatch and environmental pollution.

She is the UoB director of University of Birmingham - VU Amsterdam Big Data and Economics Research Network (BVRN). The BVRN is a network of academics at the University of Birmingham and Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam undertaking data-driven economic analyses of urban, environment, labour and migration-related topics.

Together with her colleagues, she has been awarded an ESRC/UKRI grant, £1,402,000 (2022) for the Diversity and UK Firm Performance project.

Labour economics: Labour market impacts of international migration and cultural diversity, skills mismatch and technological change,innovation, human capital and knowledge spillovers, economics of population, migration policy.
