Since the 7/7 terror attacks, the promotion of Britishness and British values has been a feature of various governmental initiatives; from counter-terror to cohesion, integration to citizenship. For the city of Birmingham, Britishness and British values are even more applicable. After last year’s ‘Trojan Horse’ scandal, all schools are now required to actively promote British values, but as with Britishness, what are British values?

During this event, we encourage the audience to engage in conversation about what Britishness and British values are seen to be in the diverse setting of contemporary Birmingham. Lasting half a day, the conversation will be informed by the research findings of a number of social scientists, including topics such as diversity, identity, immigration and policy.

Light refreshments will be provided.

St. George’s Church, 1 Westbourne Crescent, Edgbaston, B15 3DQ
