Two Weeks to go to Housing and Communities Research Group Conference on Hope for Housing
On 9th July we are holding a research conference on community-led housing with a special focus on Birmingham and the West Midlands.
Held in collaboration with Birmingham Community-led Housing Partnership the conference connects international academic research, local community activism and policy to support community-led housing in Birmingham and the West Midlands. Our organising committee includes key national and local activists and researchers in Community-led housing.
The 100 places for this important event are now fully booked and we have a reserve list. We are looking forward to an exciting day with international speakers from Austria and Australia, editors of academic journal special issues on community-led housing in 10 countries, national policy makers from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government and Homes England. A special workshop will discuss the findings of a Marie Curie/ Austrian Academy of Sciences Fellowship Project by Dr Richard Lang ‘Co-operative Capital’ on how community-led housing is supported and could be scaled up in Austria and England.
There will be opportunities for local organisations to network and hear about the support available from the newly formed Birmingham Community-led Housing Partnership. A final session will focus on making it happen here and now in Birmingham with learning points from national community housing activists and from other parts of the country. Councillor Sharon Thompson, Cabinet Member for Homes and Neighbourhoods, Birmingham City Council will close the conference by addressing what the local authority can do.
