Lucas Rowe

Students from the School of Sport & Exercise Sciences excelled in recent BUCS Championships in gymnastics and judo. On 24th February Lucas Rowe (BSc Sport, Physical Education and Coaching Science [SPECS]) won gold in the 60kg men’s high grade category of the British Judo Association/BUCS Gatorade Nationals in Sheffield (see UB Sport for full details).

The University’s team also had its most successful year at the BUCS Gymnastics Championships in Aldershot. The Women's A team won gold against 14 other university teams, the Men’s team took home bronze.

Stand-out performances included: Alice Day (BSc SPECS) who won gold in the All-Around Level 2 against 97 other women, silver on Vault and bronze on Bars; Rebecca Blacklock (BSc Sport & Exercise Sciences [SES]) who won gold on the Floor; Nathan Comber (BSc SES) won gold on the Floor and silver on the Rings; and Sean Eyles (MSc Exercise & Sport Science) took home bronze in the Vault.

Nathan Comber also took home gold and the title of BUCS 2’s Elite Men’s Champion in the Gatorade Trampolining Nationals, heading a strong performance from a large university team including many other students from the School. Team captain, Alex Peart (BSc SES) said “We had a fantastic day, with novice through to the elite performing to an excellent standard.”
